Time is money

October is here and work has certainly ramped up after the summer.

I don’t always have the time to get involved in networking events, so it was a privilege to have been invited to present at Business Builders, Fareham, and the Morning Networking Space in Emsworth earlier this month.  It’s always a great opportunity to meet new local businesses and catch up with some familiar faces.  This leads me nicely into ‘networking’. Love it or hate it, it’s vital to business, whether that be formal or informal.

What makes a good team?

I hope you had a good August.  As I deal with teams typically and it is the holiday season, August tends to be a quieter time for me. That said it did give me a chance to catch up with the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation and run a couple of days training with them on leadership and systems.

Downtime?!

As summer arrives it gives me some time to enjoy the sun!  Things automatically slow down this month with business so it’s a great opportunity to reflect and plan for the remainder of the year, so it’s not all downtime.

What's your game plan?

July has been full of wonderful sporting events - some good for the UK, some not so.

Congratulations to Andy Murray, what a brilliant Wimbledon! Lewis Hamilton’s success in the Grand Prix; Chris Froome, who at time of writing was adorning the Tour De France Yellow Jersey. Why then are our football team left wanting? My view? It's down to a poor strategy and game plan, which stems from a lack lustre FA, especially when compared to Wales, whose strategy, game plan and passion remain unquestionably spot on. Well Done Wales.

I’m writing this blog just before heading off for a week’s break in the sunshine – something that’s been in short supply in the UK. It also gives me an opportunity to reflect on a very successful year and plan my next three years – just as I do with clients.

The calm before the storm!

April certainly was the calm before the storm!

May is turning into a very busy month with plenty of workshops to keep me out of mischief, so little time for anything else.

I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break, it’s always nice to be rewarded with a long weekend so I took advantage of it by taking a few extra days off and went skiing!  Skiing is a great way to unwind and recharge – fresh mountain air, as well as enjoying the après skiing! Surprisingly, there was plenty of snow in Morzine still.

Last year, I was asked to co-present with Sky presenter and ex professional footballer, Matt Le Tissier.  It was an event organised by Sheridan Maine, a large finance and accountancy recruitment firm, who are now looking to set up an Academy to develop the careers of newly qualified accountants.  The purpose of the Academy is to enhance those individual’s softer skills in presentation skills, people skills etc.

They say as one door shuts another opens and that’s what happened!  I regularly speak with clients on dealing with change and now it’s my turn!  It just goes to show that new opportunities are just around the corner.
